Carleton Place Book Launch

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAThanks to everyone who braved the cold and rain to come out to the book launch celebration in Carleton Place. It was great to see friends and family from the area, Some from as far away as Kingston. However the real prize for the most distant goes to my cousin Carolyn and her husband Bill who drove all the way from Dansville, New York. Wow, that’s dedication.

It’s been really gratifying to receive so much encouragement from all of you. I could not have done this without the support you have so freely given. KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

So now The Spark is launched into the literary marketplace.  I think I’ve created the best book I can. We’ll see what happens. I’ll do what I can, of course, with signings, interviews and marketing as the opportunities arise. But the book will survive or fail on whatever momentum it can generate as an entertaining and compelling story.  I guess this is a bit like what those of you who have children must feel as they strike out on their own.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAI have entered The Spark in several book awards competitions, such as the Toronto Book Awards, The Arthur Ellis Awards given by the Crime Writers of Canada, and the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. No they’re not the Giller, but you’ve got to start somewhere. Even getting short listed for one of these awards will give The Spark and significant boost, so keep your fingers crossed. I should start hearing the result in the spring of 2014. Hundreds of books get entered in these competitions and the poor judges have to read them all. And you thought your job sucked!

I’ll keep you all posted as the results start coming in.
